Dear Friends I have put myself forward again to sit on the Committee of the Society of Asian Lawyers. As most of you know I was Chair of the Society between 2008 to 2010. The Society is now more relevant than ever in protecting the interests of Asian Lawyers and the Communities that we serve. It is important that the Committee is balanced and that there should be a strong solicitor.as well as Bar presence I offer that solicitor presence. I am a Council Member of the Law Society and can and do make the concerns of the Society plain to senior management and Office holders at the Society. It is important, for the sake of our members,to keep that line of communication open. Over the last year I have represented the Society on the External Implementation Group of the SRA challenging inequality and promoting diversity. I have represented SAL on the Ethnic Minority Division of the Law Society and the Minority Lawyers Conference Group. I have made the concerns and fears of BMe criminal Lawyers known at Consultation meetings regarding the future of Legal Aid. I coordinated an open letter from bme groups to the Evening Standard and did an open letter to the Chancellor which he responded to. I have contributed to both of SAL’s criminal legal Aid consultation responses and have addressed our concerns directly to The Lord Chancellor. I now need your support to carry on this work. SAL elections take place on Thursday 27th at 25 Bedford Row. I ask for your support and vote. Unfortunately you can only attend in order to vote. I therefore hope to see you and to buying you a drink afterwards! Kind Regards
